u people make great points but don't go too far the other way! why not have western-style, eastern-style AND mix-em-ups? I LOVE my shooters incorporating rpg elements (Bioshock) and rpgs incorporating shooter elements (Mass Effect, Fallout 3), some of the best stuff this-gen!
rockleex I like you & your comments on n4g but you said you'd like to see customizable perks which I believe are from western games (COD4 and Fallout 3).
of course, those customizable perks are basically rpg elements in our shooters; and rpgs are traditionally Japan's area of expertise. I see what you mean that incorporating western styles shouldn't HAVE to happen to make good games but I still think it's better when we all play together, y'know?
dont' forget Too Human. except both of those were announced BEFORE ms changed their announcing tactics to holding games closer to their proverbial vest/chest.
I admit ms still shows Alan Wake, but it's the ONLY game I know of where they do that. compared with the majority of big sony exclusives that get announced way early.

that being said, I predict sony > MS at E3 2009 by sheer weight of numbers. even if many sony exclusives won't come out for a while there r so many that it's ok to expect some will come in a more reasonable amount of time.

I won't hit disagree but those 'weird ways' of changing the gameplay are the best thing to happen to rpgs since Chrono Trigger (and wasn't that the 1st to add real-time speed meters to the turn-based combat?). there's a reason Mass Effect and Fallout 3 are award winners.
